“I had the pleasure of visiting Vietnam in 2025. I spent a lot of time exploring the waterways and people-watching in the intense heat. So, to honour my experience, I painted a fisherman surrounded by fish, plus the diacritic marks from the ‘O’ in ‘Hội An’. One of the fish incorporates ‘sơn mài’, a style of Vietnamese lacquer painting where the top-most layers are removed to reveal the layers beneath – in this case, eggshells.“
