I am fascinated by visual contrasts and contradictions, particularly between fragility and strength, and how nature is constantly transforming itself.

I find something beautiful happens when you merge two opposing images. In this case, the wild, weathered sheep skull contrasts with the delicate, carefully nurtured flowers of a bonsai tree.

I took a lot of care when mixing the colours for this painting because I wanted to create a sense of calm and unity throughout the image — from the petals and leaves to the skull itself.

By bringing these two very different elements together, I wanted to explore how life and death, fragility and strength, can exist alongside one another. The skull represents mortality, while the flowers suggest growth, beauty and renewal.

For me, Animal Skull With Flowers isn’t really about one being beautiful and the other being dark. It’s about the relationship between the two — and the constant cycle of change within the natural world.
